ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to explore the effects of Shengmai(SM) injection on blood pressure (BP),heart rate (HR),electrocardiogram (ECG),and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and NO levelin Beagle dogs with myocardial ischemia (MI).A total of 30 Beagle dogs were divided into 5 groups, which were the blank control group, model control group,SM injection low-dose group (0.80 mL· kg-1),SM injection high-dose group (3.20 mL· kg-1) and isosorbidemononitrate group (0.07 mL· kg-1).The MI model was established by the subcutaneous injection of isoprenaline hydrochloride, and the drug treatments were given at the same time.At 1 h,6 h,12 h,24 h after administration, changes of BP,HR and ECG were recorded;serum CRP and NO content were detected. The results showed that compared with the blank control group, the mean arterial pressure (MBP) was significantly decreased (P<0.01),HR was significantly increased (P<0.01,or P<0.05),the ECG△ST value was significantly increased (P<0.01) in the model group.SM injection could improve symptoms mentioned above, but the effectswereslow.SM injection had a significant antagonistic effect on the decreasing of CRP content and the increasing of NO content, compared with the model group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.01,or P<0.05).It was concluded that SM injection could improve the physiological indices of Beagle dogs with MI,which might be related to the regulation of CRP and the inhibition of NO secretion.

ABSTRACT

C-repeat-binding factors (CBFs) are a type of important regulon in stress-related signal transduction pathways that control plant tolerance of abiotic stress. Ammopiptanthus mongolicus is the only evergreen broadleaf shrub in the northwest desert of China. The species shows strong resistance to environmental stress, especially to cold stress. An A. mongolicus CBF1 gene (AmCBF1) was cloned and transformed into tobacco. Expression of AmCBF1 could be detected in A. mongolicus shortly after exposure to low temperature of 4°C. Analysis on ratio of electrolytic leakage, soluble sugar content, free proline content, malondialdehyde (MDA) content and peroxidase (POD) activity before and after cold treatment (4°C) for 24 h indicated AmCBF1 conferred higher cold tolerance to AmCBF1 transgenic tobacco compared with the wild type and empty vector transformed tobacco.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness for infants of antifebrile therapy using a hypothermia blanket or rectal antipyretics following open heart surgery. METHODS: This was a retrospective study and 174 infants who had open heart surgery at P University Hospital, and whose body temperature body temperature exceeded 37.2degrees C were included in the study. The assessment tool was composed of 32 items was used for assessment of fever therapy, physiological indexes and antifebrile duration. Physiological indexes included systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, pH, PaCO2, PaO2, HCO3-, SaO2, and K+ and the antifebrile duration was minutes from having a fever until BT returned to normal levels. RESULTS: The antifebrile duration with the hypothermia blanket was shorter than with rectal antipyretics. There were significant differences in the physiological indexes with either type of antifebrile therapy, but drop in BT was greater with the hypothermia blanket than rectal antipyretics. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that a hypothermia blanket is a non-invasive, non-drug and safe antifebrile therapy. Therefore, a hypothermia blanket can be applied to infants with a fever following open heart surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective By comparing the physiological index and diosgenin content of rhizome between the artificial tetraploid and the wild type diploid of Dioscorea zingiberensis, it is aimed at revealing the potential utility of polyploid breeding in medicinal D. zingiberensis. Methods Three clones of the natural diploid and the artificially induced tetraploid of D. zingiberensis were used as materials in this study. The content of SOD, PPO, and soluble sugar of leaves was determined by spectrophotometry, CAT content was measured by using the method of KMnO_4 titration. And the diosgenin content in rhizome was analyzed by HPLC. Results The tetraploid plants showed higher level of SOD, PPO, CAT, soluble sugar content in leaves, and diosgenin content in rhizome than those of the diploid origins. The diosgenin content in the three clones of tetraploid plants increased to 27% as compared to wild type. Conclusion Artificially induced tetraploid presents high content of diosgenin and great potential in stress resistance, which would be available in good seed breeding for high yield of diosgenin.
